Creating Your Facebook Business Page and Group

Facebook is a great platform for connecting with your customers, building relationships, and ultimately making those jewelry sales!  But you need to know that Facebook has their very own Terms of Use, and you need to follow those Terms to protect your account.

The biggest rule to follow on Facebook is no business on your personal timeline.  Yes, you can share to your personal timeline, but you should not be selling directly on your Facebook timeline.

The BEST way to run your business on Facebook is to open a FREE Facebook Business Page (aka Like Page) and a Closed Group specifically for your business.

You’ll need to have a name for your page and group to get started…you can just go with Your Name – Independent Paparazzi Accessories Consultant, or you can be more creative!

Here are the steps you need to follow to create your Facebook Page:

  1. On the left side of your screen (desktop version), towards the bottom, select Create Page.
  2. Choose Local Business or Place on the next page.
  3. Complete the information for your new Page!

Your Facebook page is your public face for your brand new business!  Think of the types of posts you’ll make for your new page…Piece of the Day?  Recipes for parties?  Hostess Rewards incentives?  You decide!

Your Facebook Group is created much the same way.

  1. On the left side of your screen (desktop version), towards the bottom, select Create Group.
  2. Follow the directions for creating your new group…be sure to leave it as Closed.

Many new consultants (and experienced ones too) ask why the group should be closed.  They feel like a Public group would gain them more exposure.  I suggest that you leave your group closed for a couple of reasons.  First, you are going to create a sense of community in your group.  This is your place to share your personality with your customers!  They get to know you, and you get to know them in your group!  That’s hard to do when everything is public…no one will want to share anything personal.  Second, many people are leery of buying items when all of the world can see what they are commenting on.  In a closed group, only group members can see what is going on in there.

Now that you know how to create your new Facebook Business Page and Group, you’re ready to get your Social Media game rolling!!
